Architectural surface manufacturers Arpa and Trespa are encouraging New York designers to leave the office, avoid the taxi, emerge from the subway, and hit the city on foot! The sister companies will host “Take It to the Streets” September 22-25, in conjunction with the 2010 ASID Design Walk.
Fashion shows incorporating wallcoverings, textiles, and building materials have become quite the trend in the interior design industry from East Coast to West Coast. The Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA), however, has taken the concept a step further and will be decking out some pretty posh pups on Wednesday, October 13.
The global A&D firm’s new venture will harness the talents of its designers to create products that will then be licensed to manufacturers for fabrication and sale.
Running through October 31, “Fish Forms: Lamps by Frank Gehry” is displayed in near darkness to create a gallery glowing fish sculptures, created by the legendary architect between 1984 and 1986.
Beginning with Philippe Starck’s La Marie chair 10 years ago, the Italian manufacturer has been at the forefront of polycarbonate furniture design, culminating with this year’s Ghost Buster, also by Starck.
